FAQ ABOUT REGISTRATION

How do I register for classes?
You can find our class selections under the “Take a Class” tab. Once you have selected the class you want to sign up for, click “Register Now” (if there is no room in the class, click “Wait List”). Then, you will be directed to either create an account or sign into your existing account. At that time, you can pay for the class by credit card.

Do you provide Payment Plans or Financial Assistance?

Are the grades listed for classes the rule or a suggestion?
CTM has a strict registration policy and will not allow students to attend a program that lists a higher grade than the grade of the student. With the exception of our Setting the Stage program (for youth with special needs), families must register for classes that align with the grade of their child, regardless of experience, interest, age range, or scheduling considerations. Please contact the education department if a student wishes to attend a class for a grade lower than their own.

What should my student register for if they have never done theater before?
CTM has a wide range of classes for all ages and abilities. For grades 4K-5, there is a range of abilities and experiences in all programs. From grades 5-12, each class will specify what level of theater experience is needed.

My child is home schooled. What class should they register for?
Based on your student’s date of birth, please assess what their current grade would be if they were to enroll in the public school district of your city or town. Then register for any CTM program that matches that grade level.

When does Summer Stage go on sale?
Summer Stage goes on sale every year on January 15.

Can I buy a gift card for CTM Theater Classes?
No. In order to purchase a class as a gift for a student, please coordinate registration with that student’s parent/guardian, who will need to create an account for their child. How does the waitlist work?
There is no guarantee that students on the wait list will be offered a spot in the class. If a registered student drops a class, CTM will notify the first family on the wait list. If they are no longer interested, CTM will invite the next family on the wait list, and so on. While you may contact CTM to inquire about your student's place on the wait list, we ask families not to make repeated asks regarding the wait list. Your place on the wait list doesn't necessarily determine your chances of getting into the program. If your plans change, please contact CTM to remove your student from the wait list.


FAQ ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS

Where does the program take place? Do I need to park downtown?
All programs occur in Downtown Madison within a few blocks of State Street and the Capitol. Please refer to the listing for the class your student is interested in taking for the specific location. You will need to park on the first day for orientation and the last day to see the final sharing (which may be in different locations). Currently scheduled for summer of 2021, all CTM programs will be under one roof! CTM and Madison Youth Choirs will be opening a youth arts center. What happens if my child has to miss a class?
For the purposes of community building and collaboration, it’s best for all concerned if there are no absences at all. Absences do affect everyone involved as theater is a team sport. If your child does have to miss a class due to illness or unavoidable conflict, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (or your Program Assistant in a 3-Week Summer Stage Program) with as much advanced notice as possible. We do have an absentee policy, so please contact the Education Department before registration to discuss if known conflicts will be a barrier for participation.

Can I watch my child in class?
No. In our experience, we find that students focus better and participate more fully when family members are not in the room. If your child is nervous about class, you can reassure them by remaining in our waiting area. Family members and friends are encouraged to attend the final class, sharing, showcase, or performance.

What should my child wear to class?
Students should wear comfortable clothing that they can move in. Gym shoes or dance shoes are the preferred footwear (no skirts/dresses, flip flops, crocs, uggs, backless shoes, open-toed sandals, or winter boots). During Summer Stage, please bring layers as the temperature in Overture fluctuates.

What should my child bring to class?
Every program will have a supply list. Common items are a labeled water bottle, a folder or binder for music sheets/scripts, a pencil, and snacks/lunch (for full day programs only). Cell phones should be turned off & out of sight (please see our Electronic Device Policy).

Will I be asked to bring items in from home for the performance/final showcase?
Although we have a studio full of fun props and costume pieces, we often ask families to provide some costuming basics from home or wear something specific for the final sharing. For Summer Stage 3 Week programs, a costume designer will be working on your student’s production and will ask families to provide some costuming basics from home (ie: a shirt/pants).

Do you provide lunch or snack for any programs?
For Summer Stage, parents are required to bring nut-free snacks and lunch for their child (the exceptions are after care, where we provide one snack, and the final day of all 3 Week programs, where we host a cast party with a pizza dinner). For Vacation Day programs, CTM provides one morning snack while families provide lunch and an afternoon snack.

Any other food restrictions? Can I bring in food for the class?
To ensure the safety of all of our students, we have a no-nut policy (including peanuts, tree-nuts, and hazelnut products). If a child in a particular program has an extreme allergy to another food or beverage, CTM will adjust this policy to accommodate the needs of that child. Does my child receive any discounts or vouchers to CTM mainstage performances?

  • Students taking Academic Year Classes will receive one voucher to a CTM performance occurring while the student is enrolled. Vouchers must be redeemed in person at the Overture Center Ticket Office. We suggest redemption at least 48 hours prior to the show to ensure availability and best seating.
  • Students who take a 3 Week Program during Summer Stage are invited to a see A Christmas Carol for free during the Summer in Winter reunion party.
  • All students taking CTM Classes receive a 20% discount all year long to all CTM mainstage productions (a code will be provided at Orientation).

What supports do CTM classes provide for youth with autism, disabilities, or special needs?
CTM welcomes every child to explore, create, and express themselves through theater! All CTM classes are inclusive and we can work with each family to choose the class that's the best fit. Supports include accessible spaces, trained artistic staff, break spaces, sensory kits, and individualized learning plans. CTM also offers self-contained classes for students with special needs, supported by Communication Innovations Pediatric Therapy Centers and Achieving Collaborative Treatment. Do we need to purchase tickets for my child’s performance?
For Summer Stage performances 3 week performances, general admission tickets for family, friends, and the general public are $8/ticket. If this is a financial burden, please contact the education department. For Summer Stage 2 week performances (that have a show title), there is a $5 suggested donation at the door. For all other Education programs, our final sharings/showcases are free and open to family and friends.

For Summer Stage, how does Casting work?
Every student will audition and receive a character to become and a moment to shine! The staff works very hard to ensure that the distribution of responsibilities is as equitable as possible, though some roles require more responsibility than others. Please encourage your student to be open to a variety of casting possibilities.

Should my child come to class if s/he sick?
If your child has any of the symptoms below, we ask that you inform us, and keep him/her home from rehearsal until the symptoms subside or he/she is cleared by a doctor. Symptoms include persistent cough, very runny nose, fever greater than 101 F, chills, aching muscles. Should children arrive at CTM presenting with flu-like symptoms, parents will be contacted immediately to pick up their child.

What if my child leaves something behind at CTM?
CTM has a labeled lost and found bin that is kept in the Studio. Always check for any missing items there. Unclaimed items are donated to charity three times a year (December, May, and September).

How will I know if a class is cancelled (due to weather or otherwise)?
