Creating new work for young audiences.
Protostar is centered on the playwright and provides support to develop, encourage, and inspire diverse voices creating new plays for young audiences.
What is Protostar?
Protostar is a play reading and workshop series presented by CTM to support innovative work for young audiences. Protostar provides a feedback and workshop model to support artists while they are developing new work using multiple forums, including two fully supported staged readings of the work: an in-school reading for target age range youth, and a public reading.
Protostar 2019 - Finder and the North Star by Erica Berman
When Finder wishes on a star, a magical, wondrous, scary, & spectacular adventure is set into motion. A mysterious visitor initiates a journey to a world Finder never knew existed. An uncharted wish forces our hero to forge a new path that ultimately leads to the monster that threatens the wish ever coming true. This mythical tale is for anyone who is bold enough to make a life-altering wish before seeing a path to get there.
Erica Berman is thrilled to be the inaugural playwright for Protostar. Erica's plays have been selected for the Wisconsin Wrights Festival (Forward Theater), Montgomery Davis Play Development Series (Milwaukee Chamber Theater), Words and Music Series (Four Seasons Theater) and a finalist for the Br!NK Residency Award (Renaissance Theaterworks) and New Plays for Young Audiences (NYU). Her play No Wake will receive its world premiere in 2020 at MCT and was recorded for the upcoming podcast "The American Playbook." Erica produces the Young Playwrights Festival at CTM in her role as Director of Education.
