When powerful New York newspaper publishers raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack Kelly rallies his ragtag group of “newsies” to fight back. Michael Decker

Michael is so excited to be working with CTM once again. Favorite credits include Gabe in Next to Normal (Waukesha Civic Theatre), J.D. in Heathers: The Musical (University Theatre) and Luke in The Lightning Thief (CTM). All the love in the world goes to his Mom, Dad, Sister, Grandma and girlfriend Caroline. Special shoutout to Pepper and Mochi. I love all of you so much!

Daniel is so excited to be a part of Newsies, in his first CTM production. Some of his favorite roles from past shows include: Benjamin in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat (VACT), Plankton in Spongebob the Musical (VACT), and Bobby Strong in Urinetown (VAHS). He wants to thank his family and friends for being such an awesome influence in his life. Seize the Day!

Coen is thrilled to be making his main stage debut in CTM’s Newsies! Previous credits include Bert in Mary Poppins, Orpheus in Hadestown, and Damian in Mean Girls. Christian is excited to make his CTM Main Stage debut in Newsies! Previous acting experience includes CTM Summer Stage. Christian is a fourth-grader at Crestwood Elementary School. Outside of school he enjoys lacrosse, reading, singing with Madison Youth Choirs, and drawing comic strips. He is grateful for the support of his friends, family, music and choir teachers Gabby Riester and Margaret Jenks, and his cats Tiger and Opal.

Caroline is very pleased to be a part of CTM’s 60th Anniversary season! Most recently, she was seen in Lungs with Vanguard Productions in Milwaukee. Some of her favorite past shows include Assassins (CCT), The Lightning Thief (CTM), and Heathers (University Theatre). Much love to her family, friends, and Michael for all their love and support.

Dave is proud to be in his first production with CTM. His most memorable theater roles have been since moving to Madison in 2014 include The Hello Girls, Miss Door County, White Christmas, Company, Twelfth Night: The Musical, The Fantasticks, Our Town, Titanic: The Musical, Elf: The Musical and Guys On Ice. Dave is grateful to his family (both related and chosen) for their support of his theater career.

Raven is excited to be making her CTM debut. She is a performing artist and licensed cosmetologist from Milwaukee. She was last seen in Middleton Players production of Into the Woods. Raven has performed with Skylight Music Theater, First Stage, The Milwaukee Rep, Paramount and American Gothic Performing Arts Festival. A senior at Verona Area High School, Morty was recently seen as Hades in Hadestown (VAHS), as well as in Cinderella and The Lightning Thief (CTM). Sequoia is so excited to be performing in CTM’s production of Newsies! He has also participated in CTM’s summer stage productions of Anastasia, Jr. and Annie, Jr. and is currently in CTM’s Advanced Acting Company. Sequoia loves performing and enjoys singing as a member of Madison Youth Choirs. Blaise is excited to be on the CTM main stage. He found his love for the arts through CTM almost 9 years ago. Since then he’s been in many shows like CTM’s Mean Girls and Madison West High Schools The Little Mermaid where Blaise is a junior and, a dedicated member to his schools dance team.

Owen Groth is a performing artist, dancer, and choreographer based in New York. He graduated from UW–Milwaukee in 2024 with a BFA in musical theatre and a minor in dance. He has performed and taught statewide with Kids From Wisconsin and in the Caribbean and Bahamas with Carnival Cruise Line. He’s excited to return to CTM, where he was a youth performer in A Christmas Carol, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Newsies marks Caroline’s 6th Main Stage production with CTM! She recently brought “Piggie” to life in both of Mo Willems’ musicals at CTM. Caroline started dancing and performing at a very young age and spent years doing competitive dance, with jazz, tap, and contemporary being her favorite styles. An 8th grader at EAGLE School, Caroline is thankful for this opportunity and thrilled to “dance her heart out” alongside this amazing cast of Newsies!

Although she has worked with CTM in Mean Girls (as Janis) and Hadestown (as Fate 3) for the past two summers, she is looking forward to her first mainstage production! Jack is excited to return to be back with CTM foe Newsies! Jack holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from The New School and AMDA, as well as a Master of Arts Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He currently works as the Broadway Engagement Program Coordinator for the Overture Center for the Arts, overseeing “The Jerrys” (Awards) while remaining active as a performer in the Madison area. A few of Jack’s most recent stage credits include Steady She Goes (Joshua, World Premiere) and The Hello Girls (Pvt. Matterson) with Four Seasons Theatre; Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella: Enchanted Edition (The Prince) and Matilda (Rudolpho) with Children’s Theater of Madison (CTM); How to Draw Frankenstein (Mike) with Theatre Now NYC. Sarah Rhoads has cherished the past 3 years working with CTM as a Teaching Artist, and is so excited to now take the stage! Rhoads’ recent roles include: Cheshire Cat in ALICE BY HEART (UW’s InterMission Theatre) & Aunt March in LITTLE WOMEN THE MUSICAL (UW-Madison). Max is really excited to make his CTM debut! He has performed in several shows both at his middle school and with the Sun Prairie Civic Theater. Max loves music. Brenden is excited to be back with his CTM family for another show this year! Brenden is a freshman at Middleton High School and when he’s not on stage, you might find him playing volleyball or ultimate frisbee with his friends, or playing his clarinet or mellophone with the band. Natalie is so excited to work with CTM as an adult! (Last time was in 2015 as Teen Fiona in Shrek!) You may have seen her in Four Seasons Theatre’s The Hello Girls or Company, and productions with Middleton Players. When not performing, she teaches at Stoughton Center for the Arts and is a full time mom. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Viterbo University. Thank you to her “village”, especially Charlie, for supporting her dreams!

Xander is excited to return to CTM for his fourth production. Past CTM productions include Matilda, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Peter Pan. Other credits include an international tour of The Sound Of Music with Broadway Asia, as well as A Christmas Story and The Wizard of Oz at The Fireside Theatre. Michael is a freelance Director/Choreographer and proud Arts Educator who previously, choreographed Cinderella, Peter Pan, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Billy for CTM.  Most recently he choreographed It’s a Wonderful Life (Capital City Theatre) and Patience (Madison Savoyards). Michael serves as Artistic Director for Wisconsin Singers (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and Choreographer for Kids from Wisconsin (Wisconsin State Fair). He is a proud 30-year Member of Actors’ Equity Association and an Associate Member of The Society for Stage Directors and Choreographers. Michael would like to thank Brian Cowing for this incredible opportunity.

Lisa is a 2008 graduate of NYC’s American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Lisa has been working professionally in the Madison area for over a decade. Music direction credits include work with CTM (The Pigeon Gets A Big Time Holiday Extravaganza), Music Theatre of Madison (Bridges of Madison County; Marry Me a Little), Sun Prairie Civic Theatre (Wizard of Oz), Madison Country Day School (Legally Blonde Jr.; Annie Jr.), and Madison College (Cabaret). Upcoming: MTM’s Trevor this August.

Rafael Castanera

Costume Designer

Rafael is an accomplished Costume Designer whose work has been featured on stages nationwide. At CTM, he has contributed extensively, designing costumes for productions such as A Christmas Carol (2021), Stellaluna, Finder and the North Star, Hadestown Teen Edition, and most recently, Winnie The Pooh (And His Pals Too!). Costume and set designs for CTM include The Magical Forest, Elephant and Piggie’s “We Are In A Play!” and The Pigeon Gets A Big Time Holiday Extravaganza! Rafael has extensive experience as a freelance project coordinator and designer in New York City, as well as serving as General Manager for Izquierdo Studio, a company specializing in the creation of specialty costumes and props for film, television, and Broadway productions. In 2019, Rafael transitioned to the role of Director of Production for CTM, after dedicating seventeen years as the Production Manager for Arkansas Repertory Theatre.

Chris Dunham
Scenic Designer

Chris received his theatre education at UW-Stevens Point and Purdue University. He is an Associate Professor and the Technical Director at Edgewood University. He has collaborated with Forward Theater Company, Theatre LILA, and Four Seasons Theatre, among others. CTM regulars will know his work from A Christmas Carol, Stellaluna, and Tuck Everlasing among others. He thanks his wife Kat and daughter Emerson.

Brian is a Chicago based lighting designer, and is excited to be returning to CTM. Anders is ecstatic to be a part of the stage and production management team at CTM! He’s worked with CTM since 2018 and he believes that CTM’s mission of community-building and spreading the joy of theater is more important than ever in an increasingly fragmented world. A graduate of Ripon College, he has a background in psychology and philosophy which informs his theatrical praxis. As a freelance stage and production manager, he’s helped bring shows to stages across the East Coast and the Midwest, including at American Players Theatre, Playhouse Stage Company, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

This show is located at the MYArts Building at 1055 E. Mifflin, Madison, WI 53703. The Starlight Theater is on the 4th floor. Come early! The Ticket Box Office is located at the reception desk on the 1st floor and opens 60 minutes prior to curtain to allow enough time for a security inspection and to find your seat. There is plenty of free and 2-hour parking on the streets in the neighborhood around MYArts and Breese Stevens Field, especially on Dayton and E. Mifflin St.
